I am a mathematician/physicist who is presently a grad student in the math department at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. I got a degree in physics from Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California. I’ve done a fair bit of computational fluids work studying Langmuir films; read about it on Andrew Bernoff’s page devoted to our work.
I’m a roadie cyclist and an active Wesnoth player. I’m also an audiophile who listens to baroque, progressive rock, jazz, and a variety of other instrumental genres. I have a deep interest in epistemology (as every scientist should!).
My computer runs KDE on Linux. I’m in love with Python. And I’m enough of a geek to unapologetically include such things on my bio page.
I’m an atheist. With respect to politics, I describe myself as a consequentialist libertarian. My favorite philosophers are Bertrand Russell, Larry Laudan, and David Hume. I’m sympathetic to many of Ayn Rand’s ideas, but I think she’s slightly rabid. The purpose of life is tea and bagels.
