In response to the latest vague warnings from the Department of Homeland Security, Radley Balko of Reason patiently explains how the DHS is — quite literally — terrorizing the American public. The article is quite good; go read it.

I’m not posting this because I have anything insightful to add. I’m posting it because I am appalled that the Bush administration is blatantly spreading fear for political purposes. And I’m even more appalled at their success in doing so (see: PATRIOT act, Iraq war, evisceration of habeas corpus rights, etc.).

However, there is something that you can do to fight terror: tell your friends and neighbors not to be afraid. Tell them to pay less attention to CNN and more attention to Paris Hilton. Paris Hilton is hated by both jihadis and neocons. What better way to show your contempt for the terrorists?
